Accessibility Statement

Last updated: July 30, 2026

Our commitment

We want Subnetica to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who rely on a keyboard, a screen reader, or other assistive technology. Accessibility is an ongoing effort here, not a one-time checkbox - we review and improve it as we build. This statement is honest about where we are today, including what still needs work.

What we've done

Recent work to improve accessibility across the site includes:

  • Making the lab catalog's filters, pagination, and lab cards operable by keyboard, with visible focus indicators
  • A collapsible, keyboard-friendly sidebar on the lab console for small screens
  • Proper labels on sign-in and account creation forms so screen readers announce each field correctly
  • A labeled, focus-visible command input in the lab console terminal
  • Keyboard-operable tabs in account settings
  • Checking and correcting low-contrast text against our color palette

Known limitations

A few areas aren't fully accessible yet. We're not going to claim otherwise:

  • The interactive network topology diagram in the lab console is primarily a visual, drag-and-drop tool and doesn't yet have a screen-reader-accessible equivalent
  • The terminal emulator used for device consoles is a free-form text interface that hasn't been fully audited for screen reader use
  • Some secondary forms (outside of sign-in and account creation) are still being reviewed for proper label association

Feedback

If you run into an accessibility barrier anywhere on Subnetica, we'd like to know about it. Email us at contact@subnetica.xyz with what you were trying to do and where it fell short - it helps us prioritize fixes.
