Module 3
Translation and Publishing
Sharing one address outward is invisible when it works. Making something inside reachable from outside is a different rule in a different direction.
In this module
- Distinguish static NAT, pooled NAT and PAT by what each maps
- Explain why outbound sharing needs no inbound rule
- Publish a service and verify it by connecting to it
Activities
Translating outward, publishing inward
The shapes of translation, and the asymmetry between directions.
Lab: publish the portal
An internal portal must answer on the public address without breaking the outbound access everything else depends on. Graded by connecting to the port, not by reading the rule back.
Lab: half the answers are dead
A name resolves to two addresses and only one of them still works. Optional.
